For my AMAR 160 "Introduction to Manufacturing" class we all manufactured and assembled a functioning come along (Hoist Winch) that could lift 500 lbs vertically and pull about 1500 lbs horizontally. The project involved a variety of manufacturing techniques such as milling, turning, casting, drilling, and even some MIG welding. Heat treating and quenching with oil was used to harden a few high stress components. A variety of benders were also used for the 1/8in handles or sheet metal stops.
